Huda Beauty is a staple for many makeup artists and enthusiasts across the globe. This brand features many neutral-toned palettes that are perfect for creating both the every day makup look and more sultry and evening-appropriate looks. The Icy Nude palette caters to the cool-toned lovers and this is reported by Huda Kattan herself, to be the last of her large palettes. Retailing for a whopping $69, is it actually worth the price for just 18 shades?

First Impressions

The first thing that strikes you about the Icy Nude Palette is its beautiful packaging. The outside features a hard acrylic casing, colored with soft browns and chrome borders and lettering on the front. Inside, the palette unfolds into a harmonious selection of cool-toned neutrals, frosty shimmers and foils, and deep smokey hues perfect for creating both subtle and bold looks.

The Color Story: Cool-Toned Magic

The Icy Nude Palette boasts a mix of 18 shades, including matte, shimmer, foil, and glitter finishes.

The colors in this palette complement each other and the mattes are easy to blend, with some being more pigmented than others right from the get go. Though a more cool-toned palette, it does feature a few warm tones that give its user some variety in mixing and matching tones that suit their desired look(s).

Texture and Performance

This palette features:

  • 1 Duochrome Metallic

  • 1 Biodegradable Glitter

  • 2 Trio Chromes

  • 3 Foil Shimmers

  • 11 Velvety Mattes

After playing with this palette, there were some general conclusions that I drew:

  • The mattes are buttery smooth, but some required more builiding than others, particularly the lighter shades. The blending was effortless.

  • The glitter is very gritty and definitely requires a glitter primer. It's still a B***H to get off. Some things never change.

  • The duochrome and trio chromes are GORGEOUS. Slight fallout from the shades.

  • It says 3 foil, but only 2 of them have the actual texture of foils. These are extremely flakey, as expected, and required a primer. Beautiful payoff.

  • IF KICKUP IN THE PAN BOTHERS YOU, THIS IS NOT THE PALETTE FOR YOU!

Last Large Palette From Huda Beauty?

Huda Kattan reported that this will be the last of her large palettes, possibly forever. The brand, I believe, is still in the process of rebranding. The loss of her large palettes brings me a little concern and I'll tell you why. Speaking from my own experience, historically speaking, her smaller 9 pan palettes leave a lot to be desired in terms of the quality, particularly from her shimmers. They are dry, do not build, and the pay off is abysmal. The quality of her palettes going forward will hopefully match the beautiful quality we know and love from her large palettes.

Final Thoughts/Honest Review

The Icy Nude palette from a color story perspective, is an icy-lover's dream. The ethereal soft beauty of the shades and tones in the palettes from both the mattes and shimmers is just beautiful. It's a versatile palette for both day and night looks, but was it worth the $69 that I paid for it? I don't know. As a color connoisseur, it's hard to justify the hefty price tag for 18 neutral shades, when many of these can be found in other, less expensive palettes. Beauty Bay immediately comes to mind. While I'm happy to have it in my collection, I can't say that you just HAVE to have this palette. What do you think?
